Bible Reading: Psalm 51:1-7

Christmas had always been one of Mia’s favorite holidays, but this year she was feeling blue. She sighed as she dragged her feet into the kitchen for their special Christmas Day breakfast. “I just haven’t been able to get into the Christmas spirit this year,” she muttered.

“Yeah,” said her sister, Lana. “How can anyone celebrate Christmas in eighty-degree weather? I almost wish we had never moved to Florida!”

“That’s silly,” said Logan. “I bet the people who’ve always lived here would hate the cold and snow back in Vermont. Besides, it’s not the weather that makes Christmas.”

Mom placed a fruit platter on the table and smiled at the girls. “Your brother is right.”

“The Christmas spirit should come from within,” Dad said as he poured everyone juice, “not from the weather. In fact, we can enjoy a white Christmas today, right here in Florida.”

“A white Christmas? In Florida?” Mia shook her head. “I can’t imagine palm trees covered with snow.”

“I’m thinking of something in a psalm.” Dad picked up a Bible and turned to Psalm 51. “Here, Lana, read the last part of this verse.”

Taking the Bible in her hands, Lana read, “Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

“David wrote that after he had sinned,” Dad explained. “So you see, kids, because we trust in Jesus, He has made our hearts clean and will always forgive us when we do something wrong. When we confess our sins to Him and ask for His forgiveness, He washes them away. He makes us even whiter than the snow in Vermont or anywhere else. That’s more important than having a white Christmas outside!”

Mia sighed. “Well, I still miss the snow at Christmas, but I really am glad Jesus came so that I can have a different kind of white Christmas no matter where I am!”

Mom joined them at the table. “Before we pass the food, let’s thank Jesus for giving us the best kind of white Christmas.” – Deana Rogers

How About You?

Where does your Christmas spirit come from? Does it depend on what the weather’s like or what presents are under the tree? Or does it come from the real meaning of Christmas—Jesus coming to save us from sin? If you trust Jesus as your Savior, let the real joy of Christmas come from knowing Him. He has made your heart as white as snow!

Today’s Key Verse:
Psalm 51:7 Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. (KJV)
