Bible Reading: Romans 3:23-26; 1 John 1:5-10

Preston stuck out his tongue and caught a fat snowflake. He could see flakes clinging to his grandma’s eyelashes as they plodded through the almost knee-deep snow. “What project is Grandpa working on now?” Preston asked, his eyes glimmering with excitement. Every week it seemed his Grandpa was making something interesting.

Grandma laughed. “I have no idea. I just can’t keep up with him!” She pointed out giant piles in the snow all around the workshop. “I told your grandpa to pick up his outdoor project before the snow came. Guess he never got around to it.” She sighed, and her eyes twinkled. “Sometimes I think God brought us together so He could have a good laugh!”

Preston grinned. Grandma was always neat and tidy, while Grandpa’s stuff was everywhere. But Preston understood Grandpa’s mind and knew there was always a method to the mess.

“Do I hear my favorite grandson?” Grandpa poked his head out of the workshop.

“You mean your only grandson,” Preston called back.

“Watch your step.” Grandpa joined them outside and gestured to the mounds of sparkling snow. “The snow is so beautiful that it’s hard to believe a bunch of gadgets are buried under it.” He winked at Grandma.

“You know, Grandpa’s project looks beautiful now. It’s amazing what snow can do.” Grandma gazed around thoughtfully. “This reminds me of what Jesus does in our lives when we accept Him as our Savior. It’s like the verse in Isaiah—‘Though our sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”

“Oh, I remember that one! If Jesus didn’t come to die on the cross for us, we would be huge piles of sin and ugliness.”

Grandpa smiled. “When we call upon the name of Jesus to save us, God no longer holds us accountable for the wrong things we’ve done or will do. The blood of His Son covers all our sins.”

Preston bent down to scoop up some snow. “I am so thankful for Jesus!”

“Me too.” Grandma gave Preston a squeeze and handed him another snowball.

Preston wrinkled his nose. “You guys know another reason God made snow?” He whirled around and threw a snowball at Grandpa. “Snowball fights!” – Savannah Coleman
