Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:16-21

Riley carefully measured a cup of sugar into a bowl. “I like making cookies,” she said, “and Dad says my cookies are second only to yours.” She cracked an egg and grinned at her mom.

“You do a great job,” Mom said as she frosted a cake, “and I appreciate you helping me make treats for my Bible study.”

Riley furrowed her eyebrows as she stirred the mixture. “Mom, how do you know the Bible is true? I mean…couldn’t it have some mistakes?”

Mom looked surprised. “No, it couldn’t.”

“Well, Addie’s dad is a pastor, and they believe most of the Bible, but he says some of the things just couldn’t have happened—like some of the miracles. He says God has set up certain laws of nature, and those things don’t fit in.”

“God did establish laws of nature,” said Mom, “but God Himself is not limited by them. He has power over them.” She paused as Riley took the baking soda from the cupboard. “Riley, why don’t you put a few extra teaspoons of baking soda in the cookie dough today?”

Riley frowned. “Why? What for?”

Mom shrugged. “Maybe it would make the cookies taste even better. And maybe if you added an extra cup of milk to make the dough nice and soft, you’d get some nice, soft cookies.”

Riley stared at her mom, then laughed. “Are you trying to ruin my cookies because you’re afraid Dad will like them better than yours? Won’t work, Mom! I’ve made these before, and I know this recipe is just right the way it is.”

“You’ve tested it and found it to be accurate.” Mom pointed to a Bible on the counter. “That’s also been tested and proven to be accurate. For example, the Bible tells of things that will take place, and many of them have already happened—like Jesus being born and then dying for our sins to save us. He fulfilled many prophecies in the Old Testament that promised God would send a Savior one day. The Bible points us to Jesus, and as we experience His love and power in our lives, it confirms that what God tells us in His Word is true.”

“I get it,” Riley said. “The Bible is tried and true—just like my recipe!”

How About You?

Have you wondered if the Bible is really true? It is! There were eyewitnesses to many things recorded there. Many events foretold in the Bible have already happened. But perhaps the greatest evidence that the Bible is true is its message about Jesus. His truth and love have changed people’s lives. The Bible has stood the test of time, and it will continue to stand forever.

Today’s Key Verse:
