Bible Reading: John 14:1-3
“I’m all packed,” Lauren said as she sat down at the kitchen table. She grinned as Mom handed her a freshly baked cookie. “Thanks,” she said.
“When are the Spencers picking you up for camping?” Mom asked.
“A little after two o’clock,” Lauren mumbled through her cookie.
“Well, thank them for me, please. I wasn’t sure how we were going to get you there with your dad at work and my car in the shop. This works out great.”
“Yeah, and I get to spend some time with Grace on the way up. I’m really excited!”
Lauren looked around for something to do. She decided to read a book, hoping it would help the next hour go by quickly. When she checked the time a while later, she was surprised to see it was 2:30. She wondered why Grace and her family weren’t there yet. They probably just got a late start, she thought. But by three o’clock she was worried.
Mom was just coming in from outside for a glass of water when Lauren hung up the phone. “Oh my,” Mom said, “l had no idea it was so late!”
“Yeah, I just called Mrs. Spencer’s cell phone, but she didn’t answer. I think her battery might be dead.” Lauren sighed unhappily. “I’m worried they forgot me.”
Lauren later found out that’s exactly what happened. Grace had forgotten to tell her parents that she had called that morning and asked for a ride.
“She didn’t remember until they were already a hour away, and then it was too late to turn around,” Lauren told Dad at dinner that night. “She felt really bad about it, but I still can’t believe she forgot all about me!”
“I’m sure she’s sorry,” Dad said. “People make mistakes sometimes.” He looked thoughtful. “You know, this reminds me that someday Jesus is going to come back and bring us to our real home in heaven. Sometimes it may seem like He’s forgotten about us, but the Bible says He’s patiently working in people’s lives so they will put their trust in Him before it’s too late. He’ll come when the time is right and won’t ever forget anyone who belongs to Him.” Dad grinned. “Now how about dessert? I hear there are cookies.” – Holly Mercer
How About You?
Does it ever seem like Jesus has forgotten you? He hasn’t! He is preparing a place so that you can one day be in heaven with Him forever. When the time comes, He will come back and bring those who trust in Him to be with Him for eternity. Until then, He will always be with you and will never forget you. Thank Him for this wonderful promise!
