Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:29-31; Ephesians 3:16-21; 2 Timothy 1:7

Jackson, Grey, and Walker huddled together on the playground. “What are we going to play today?” Grey asked.

“Let’s play superheroes,” said Jackson. “I’ll be Mr. Amazing and come and save you from the bad guys.”

“One, two, three, SUPERHEROES!” Walker shouted.

“Mr. Amazing! Over here!” Grey called. “The bad guys are winning!”

“Ha HA!” Jackson laughed. “They won’t get away! I’m here to save the day!”

Pretending his hands were tied behind his back, Walker yelled, “Quick! Untie me, Mr. Amazing, and we’ll help you!”

Jackson ran toward Walker and waved at his teacher as he passed her. “Look, Ms. Shelly!” he called out. “We’re playing superheroes! I’m Mr. Amazing, and Grey and Walker are helping me fight the bad guys.”

“You know what?” Ms. Shelly said. “Watching you play superheroes reminds of another kind of superhero—Bible superheroes.”

“The Bible has SUPERHEROES?” Grey asked in surprise. “Can they lift heavy things with their superpowers like Mr. Amazing?”

Ms. Shelly smiled. “Well, they didn’t have that kind of superpower. They had a special kind of power—God’s power!”

“What’s God’s power?” Jackson asked.

“It’s the strength He gives you to do something you couldn’t do on your own. In the Bible, He gave special strength to a young boy named David who fought a giant and won. A warrior named Joshua defeated a huge, scary army with God’s help, and the city walls came tumbling down. Another man named Elijah stood up to 450 evil men who didn’t believe in God. And do you know why they were superheroes?”

“Why?” the boys asked in unison.

“So God could show how strong and mighty He is. Those men didn’t do those things in their own power—it was God’s Spirit working through them.”

“Can we be Bible superheroes?” Grey asked.

“Absolutely! Because the three of you know Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit inside you. He gives you power to do great things—things like obey God and show His love to others, even when it’s hard or scary.”

“You know what I think?” Jackson said with a grin. “That’s AMAZING!” Kelly Hope
