Bible Reading: Psalm 119:33-40

Everleigh put the orange juice in the refrigerator. She tried to close the door, but her baby brother had crawled over and was in the way. “Look out, Milo,” she said, nudging him over a few inches. He whimpered a little.

A few minutes later Everleigh opened the refrigerator to put the butter away, and Milo scooted over again. “What do you like about the refrigerator?” Everleigh asked as she moved him back. “The light?” Milo started to fuss as she closed the door.

Just then, Mom came in. “Time for your bottle, Milo.” She took his bottle out of the refrigerator and walked over to the sink. Fussing even more loudly, Milo followed her.

Everleigh laughed. “I thought he liked the refrigerator light, but I guess he wanted his milk.”

“I think so,” said Mom with a smile. She picked up the baby, and his mouth opened wide as she offered him the bottle.

Everleigh grinned. “You know, Mom,” she said thoughtfully, “Mrs. Johnson talked about babies and milk in church a couple of weeks ago. We learned a Bible verse about it.”

“I think I know just the verse you’re talking about,” said Mom. “Can you recite it?”

“Sure,” said Everleigh. “It’s First Peter 2:2. ‘Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that you may grow up into your salvation.’”

Mom nodded. “Like pure, delicious milk, the Bible nourishes us spiritually by teaching us about Jesus and what He’s done for us. But I’m afraid we aren’t always as eager for God’s Word as babies are for their milk. Some days we may not feel like reading the Bible or learning about what it says, but we still need it. As we read it and take God’s words to heart, we’ll desire it more and more and grow in our faith.”

“So I guess Milo trying to get into the refrigerator is a good lesson on how we should feel about the Bible,” said Everleigh. She grinned as she watched her baby brother drink from his bottle. “We should be as eager to read God’s Word as Milo is for his milk!” Rebecca L. Velez

How About You?

Do you read your Bible? Do you enjoy hearing messages from God’s Word at church? A baby needs milk to grow physically, and you need God’s Word to grow spiritually. It’s the food that feeds your heart and mind and helps you know more about Jesus. Read some verses every day and think about what they say. Ask God to help you eagerly read His Word and apply it to your life.

Today’s Key Verse:
