Bible Reading: Isaiah 41:10-13

Tina pushed her bowl of cereal away. “Tina, are you feeling okay?” Dad asked. “You haven’t finished your breakfast all week. I’m taking you to school in ten minutes, so you need to finish up.”

Tina’s eyes filled with tears. “Dad, I don’t want to go to school!”

“Honey, talk to me.” Dad pulled a chair up next to his daughter. “You’ve been really upset about going to school lately. Want to tell me why?”

“I’m afraid to!” Tears ran down Tina’s cheeks.

“You’re my daughter, and I promise to always listen to you and help you.”

Tina took a shaky breath. “You know Melanie? She’s been yelling at me lots. Yesterday I was partners with Stacy during gym class, and after class was over, Melanie yelled at me and said I could only be partners with her. Then she hit me really hard on my arm and said if I told anyone she would tell the whole class all my secrets!”

Dad hugged Tina. “How long has this been going on?”

“About a month. None of the teachers notice because she only yells and hits me when no one is watching. I’m scared of her, Dad. I don’t know what to do!”

“Tina, it’s never okay for someone to hurt you. The first thing you need to do is tell an adult, and I’m glad you had the courage to tell me. I’m going to talk to your teacher before school today. Until her parents are informed and the adults come up with a solution, I’m going to make sure an adult will be watching you at all times. If Melanie makes you uncomfortable, it’s okay to say, ‘I’m sorry, Melanie, but you are not speaking to me in a kind way,’ and then walk away.”

Tina nodded. “I’ll try, Dad.”

“Let’s pray before we leave,” Dad said, and they both bowed their heads. “Jesus, we are asking for Your protection over Tina. I pray she would be bold enough to tell Melanie no when she is hurting her. Give us all wisdom on how we can help both girls through this. Help Tina remember she doesn’t have to be afraid because You are always with her. Amen.” Savannah Coleman

How About You?

Have you been bullied by another kid—or even an adult? You may be scared to tell someone, but if you’re being hurt by someone’s words or actions, it is NOT okay. You are God’s child, and He loves you and wants you to be safe, physically and emotionally. Tell an adult who you trust about what’s going on. Remember that Jesus is always with you, and trust Him for courage and protection.

Today’s Key Verse:
Isaiah 41:13 For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (NIV)
